Korean baseball (KBO) — go to a game
One of Korea's best nights out — nonstop cheering, chicken & beer, cheap seats.
Even if you don't follow baseball, a KBO game is one of the most fun — and most Korean — nights you can have.
Why it's worth it (the cheering culture)
• Each team has a cheer squad led by a cheermaster (eungwon-danjang) and cheerleaders who run nonstop songs, chants and dances — the whole stand joins in, and every player has his own chant.
• You can bring in your own food and drink: fried chicken + beer ("chimaek") at your seat is part of the ritual, and each stadium has its own local snack.
• Inflatable thunder-sticks, group songs and a great family atmosphere. Just sit on the home side, copy your neighbors, and you're in.
Season
• Regular season: late March to early September (2026: Mar 28 – Sep 6), about 6 games a week — no games on Mondays.
• Start times are usually evenings on weekdays and afternoons/evenings on weekends.
• Playoffs and the Korean Series run through October; pre-season exhibition games start in mid-March.
Tickets (as a foreigner)
• Online sites (Ticketlink, Interpark) usually need a Korean phone number for ID verification — tricky for visitors.
• Easiest: buy at the stadium box office 1–2 hours before a weekday game, with your passport. Weekend and rivalry games (e.g. LG vs Doosan) sell out — arrive early or plan ahead.
• The KT Wiz "Wizzap" app supports English/Japanese and takes overseas cards.
• Tickets are cheap — roughly ₩8,000–20,000 for most seats.
Stadiums & how to get there
• Seoul — Jamsil Baseball Stadium (LG Twins & Doosan Bears): Sports Complex Stn (Lines 2 / 9), Exit 5–7.
• Seoul — Gocheok Sky Dome (Kiwoom Heroes), indoor/all-weather: Guil Stn (Line 1), a short walk.
• Incheon — SSG Landers Field, Munhak (SSG Landers): Munhak Sports Complex Stn (Incheon Line 1), Exit 2.
• Busan — Sajik Baseball Stadium (Lotte Giants), famous for the loudest fans in Korea: Sports Complex Stn (Busan Line 3).
• Other teams play in Daejeon (Hanwha), Daegu (Samsung), Gwangju (KIA), Changwon (NC) and Suwon (KT).
Check your team's home schedule against your dates — even a casual game is worth a night.
