Renting a car & driving

You'll need an International Driving Permit — great for Jeju.

Most trips don't need a car — Seoul and intercity transit are excellent — but a car is very useful on Jeju and in the countryside, where sights are spread out and buses are slow. To rent and drive, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country along with your national license and passport. Koreans drive on the right. Navigation is mostly in Korean (TMAP is the local favorite; Naver Map also routes for cars), so enter destinations by Korean place name or address. City parking is tight, and expressway tolls are usually auto-charged through the rental's hi-pass device.
