Hidden non-kosher ingredients

Fish sauce, anchovy stock and pork hide in many 'plain' dishes.

Even simple-looking Korean food often isn't what it seems. Most kimchi contains fish sauce or salted shrimp; many soups and side dishes (banchan) start from an anchovy or beef stock; pork appears in a huge range of dishes and on shared grills. Gelatin, imitation crab and shared fryers add more issues. 'Vegetable' or 'vegetarian' on a menu does not mean pareve or kosher. Use Papago's camera on the menu, ask specifically (see the dietary phrases), and when in doubt rely on sealed products or the Chabad house.
