Grand palaces of Seoul

Gyeongbokgung and the royal palaces — Seoul's must-see core.

Gyeongbokgung is the largest and most famous Joseon-era palace, with a changing-of-the-guard ceremony a few times a day. Nearby are Changdeokgung (with its Secret Garden) and Deoksugung. Entry is free if you arrive wearing hanbok (traditional dress), rented nearby. Come in the morning to beat the crowds, and combine it with Bukchon and Insadong next door.
