Shabbat in a Korean hotel

Key-card power, auto-locks and elevators need planning ahead of time.

Most Korean hotels cut room power when you remove the key card from the wall slot, and doors use automatic electronic locks — both are challenges on Shabbat. Ask in advance whether the front desk can keep power on, provide a spare card, or arrange a room whose door can be left usable. High-rise buildings are common, so ask about a Shabbat-friendly or attended elevator. Staying near the Chabad house shortens the walk to services. Arrange all of this before Shabbat begins.
