Taxis: how they work

Metered and cheap — easiest with the Kakao T app.

Korean taxis are metered and relatively cheap. The easiest way for foreigners is the Kakao T app (it has English): it books a metered taxi, shows your destination and route to the driver, and sidesteps the language barrier — pay by a registered card or cash. On the street, regular taxis are orange, silver or white; 'deluxe' taxis (black, with a gold sign) cost more. A late-night surcharge applies roughly 22:00–04:00, and tipping is not expected. Most taxis also accept T-money and cards.
