Gangneung

Gangwon Province's East Sea city — wide beaches, a famous seafront coffee culture, pine forests and fresh seafood. A refreshing coastal break, and host of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Just north lies Sokcho, the gateway to Seoraksan's granite peaks — an easy add-on to a Gangneung trip.

Getting there & around

From Seoul — KTX — Depart Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni Station (both on subway line 1) → arrive Gangneung Station. About 2h, ~₩27,600 (the line built for the 2018 Olympics).
From Seoul — express bus — Depart Dong Seoul Terminal (Gangbyeon station, subway line 2) or Seoul Express Bus Terminal (lines 3, 7, 9) → arrive Gangneung terminal. About 2.5–3h, ~₩15,000–23,000.
From Incheon Airport — Direct airport limousine buses run to Gangneung (~3.5h) — convenient straight off the plane.
Sokcho & Seoraksan — About an hour further north of Gangneung by intercity bus. Local buses and taxis reach the beaches around Gangneung itself.
